About Thiam Siew Ave, Tanjong Katong Neighbourhood

Tanjong Katong is a neighbourhood in Singapore with a rich cultural heritage. Thiam Siew Avenue is one of the residential streets in it. It was once an ethnic enclave of Eurasians. The neighbourhood is now filled with shops and cafes. There are many local stores and restaurants that sell the region’s unique food, arts and crafts, and culture.

Before World War Two, the area was a sea front retreat for the wealthy. Many large colonial bungalows were constructed along Meyer and Mountbatten roads. A thriving community of Peranakan and Eurasian residents made the area their home. For special occasions, these residents would gather at Kampong Amber.

Today, Tanjong Katong has changed a lot, with some of the original Peranakan terrace houses now being replaced by modern high rises. Despite the changes, the neighborhood has a strong kampong spirit.

This neighbourhood is a haven for people who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. There are also lots of cool places to shop, hang out, and relax. Whether you are visiting for a day or for a long weekend, there are plenty of things to do.

Katong is a wonderful place to visit and live in Singapore. The Continuum residents will discover a variety of local eateries and stores that offer excellent value and quality.

One of the best places to eat in Tanjong Katong area is Kim Choo, which has been serving Nyonya rice dumplings for over half a century. Besides their famous rice dumplings, The Continuum condo residents can also find plenty of other Peranakan dishes.

Other restaurants that are worth checking out are Rumah Bebe and Yuslavia Bakery & Cafe. Both have bake shops and cater to a variety of tastes. Some of the other popular eats in Katong include kaya toast, fresh roasted chestnuts, and the ever-popular Katong Laksa.

The area is also known for its street art hosting some of the popular local art galleries.

The Continuum condominium residents can explore the history of the area at the Eurasian Heritage Museum, which focuses on the area’s culture. The museum has a collection of antiques and offers traditional Peranakan foods.

The district also has a lively nightlife. In the past two years, the area has seen an influx of development. Roxy Square was built in the former site of the Roxy cinema, and it is now a multi-million dollar shopping complex. Another notable eatery is the Drunken Farmer, which serves sourdough pizzas and natural wines.

With a rich cultural heritage, a variety of dining options, and a vibrant nightlife, Tanjong Katong is a great neighbourhood to live in Singapore. While it doesn’t have many big ticket items, it’s a place that offers plenty of charm.

The Continuum is blessed to be located in a culture-rich neighbourhood and future residents can look forward to live in such a vibrant neighbourhood.
